Why 2 Blades Are Better Than More

Browse Amazon for a wood, gas or pellet stove fan and your screen will be filled with identical looking 3 and 4 blade designs. Ecofan stands out for our 2 blade design, and we're proud of that. Our competitors love to make the claim that more blades are better. This simply isn't true. We’ve tested the competitors’ products and time and again, we come out on top.

Ecofan blades are designed specifically to perform optimally alongside the highest grade thermal sensitive parts. Years ago, Ecofan moved exclusively to a two-blade design as our testing team determined that two blades result in less drag on the motor, allowing for better performance and a longer life. Ecofan blades are CE compliant and feature a rounded edge for extra safety.

Need more information? Here are the top 5 reasons two-vaned blades are better than more.

1. Less Power to Get Going = Longer Motor Life

Two-vaned blades use less power to start and operate. This means an Ecofan will be quicker to start up and our blades will create less stress on the motor, resulting in a longer motor life.

2. Lower Necessary Torque Means Faster Movement at Lower Temperatures

More vaned blades require more torque power (the force required to get a mass moving). The greater the mass found, the more drag is created and the more torque needed to get going.

3. Less Turbulence for an Easier Spin

Blades with more vanes create more turbulence (or dirty air) for the blades to fight through given the small amount of power generated by the fan. This makes it difficult for the fan to reach its peak efficiency.

4. Better Balance

A two-vaned blade is easier to balance. It will also maintain balance so that an Ecofan will run smoother, with less vibration and noise.

5. Think About Airplanes

More blades are better when you are delivering unlimited power to the blade. Consider it in the context of airplanes: with planes you have lots of horsepower being delivered to a propeller. The first planes had 2 bladed props and then as horsepower increased, manufacturers built with more props. Today, most power turboprop planes can use 5 or 6 blades. We use premium motors in every Ecofan model but thermoelectric power is minimal. Thus, keeping the weight that the motor is tasked with moving low will result in better performance!
