Why Aussies and Canadians Get On So Well

7 Similarities Between Aussies and Canadians

Despite being located on opposite sides of the globe, Australians and Canadians are kindred spirits: We love exploring each other’s countries, and when we meet in person there is an instantaneous connection and a deep sense of understanding.

But why is this? Aussie guest writer Freya Hall has some ideas...

Big countries, small populations

Geographically speaking, Canada is the second-largest country in the world and Australia is the sixth-largest. But unlike the other sprawling nations, both Canada and Australia have comparatively low populations that are densely situated in small regions. Most Australians live along the coast, and most Canadians live along the US border. In both cases, this is because these regions have the climate and physical geography suitable for agricultural production and settlement. This brings up the next point…

Australia Caravanning

Harsh climates, adventurous spirits

Huge swathes of both countries are considered uninhabitable due to weather and terrain conditions: in Australia, that’s because of arid land and harsh heat, and in Canada, the mountainous landscapes and fierce cold. Although these conditions are scary to many, they’re normal for Australians and Canadians, who bond over their mutual resilience and reverence for nature. Both nations have bred many brave, daring, and intrepid travellers.

Spectacular scenery

Both nations are known for their breathtaking nature, although the types of nature couldn’t be more different. But you know what they say? Opposites attract! So it makes sense that when Canadians are looking for white-sand beaches and desert they head Down Under, and when Aussies are looking for powdery slopes and grizzly bears they head North.

Common language

One difficulty often encountered when travelling is the language barrier. But the majority of Canadians speak English as their first language. This makes travelling far more accessible for Australians, and vice versa when Canadians explore Oz.

Friendly and jovial

Not to toot our own horn… but we Australians think we’re pretty funny. We tend to not take ourselves too seriously, love to have a muck around, and enjoy a good belly laugh. Although our Canadian besties are renowned for their politeness, we’ll let you in on a little secret… they’re also a barrel of laughs, laid back, and down for fun!

Australian Open Road Caravan

Sporting success

Our spectacular landscapes predispose us to excel in different sporting arenas. For Canada, that means dominating in the ice hockey rink and for Australia, that means splashing away the competition in the pool. And when we beat the Americans? Even better!

Avid explorers

Australian and Canadian explorers have braved the outback and scaled the snowy peaks, so we know good gear and take quality very seriously. It’s no wonder SEEKR is so popular Down Under. Made in Canada, SEEKR’s Sirocco II is a class-leading favourite and proudly Australia’s favourite RV fan.
